24/02 Snelsmore Feeder

Location: Snelsmore Common Feeder
Session: 24-Feb -2019 07:40 to 11:20hrs
Notes: Four siskins; was hoping that there would be more, but nice birds to see in the hand; the recapture had been ringed last week at the Bagnor feeder, a couple of KMs away. The mild weather kept most birds up in the trees and from observations when condition checking the nearby nest boxes today (25th), Blue Tits probably on territory. There seemed to be a lot more Great Tits around than in recent visits. A six years old Nuthatch is the oldest recapture for this species I can remember; not checked yet though.  Last year’s matching capture was considerably more, the weather was very different though, beast from the east and all that. Nice steady session today; had time to sort out Brexit, not!
Weather: Bright, sunny, calm, mild
Present: JL, JHW, IW, DL, RJC
Nets: 24metres a 6m each side of feeder 12m west of feeder 08:00 to 11:00hrs
Lure (feeder): black sunflower, niger, fat balls, peanuts
