05/03 Bagnor Feeder

Location: Bagnor Feeder
Session: 05-Mar-2019 07:40 to 11:20hrs
Notes: A slow session with just four birds captured by 10:00hrs. While we were erecting the nets, a small group of Siskins sang in the treetops. Unfortunately there they stayed for a while before flying off. Several walks around the field filled the time. The mild weather of recent days has encouraged the birds to start forming pairs and territories. Presumably birds that had been on territory came to feed as after a couple of blank rounds  the two final net rounds had captures of five and ten birds. this included most of the Blue Tits of the session. Last year’s matching visit was a little better. Captures tend to drop away as spring approaches. Just one more scheduled visit here before the feeder season is over for another winter
Weather: Bright, sunny, cool with a slight ground frost in sheltered areas, light breeze early getting stronger as the the session progressed. .
Present: JL, IW, DL
Nets: 12metres a 6m net each side of the feeder up from 08:00 to 11:00hrs
Lure (feeder): peanuts, black sunflower, niger, fat balls

Sightings 33 Species: much of the activity around the site today involved singing and territory. Great Spotted Woodpeckers were drumming and the Red-legged Partridge gathering has now broken into pairs. A Raven was mobbed by crows over towards Honey Bottom and Buzzards and Red Kites circled over the wood. A fly-over Grey Wagtail and  a Water Rail are probably the best birds.
