10/03 Snelsmore Feeder

Location: Snelsmore Feeder
Session: 10-Mar-2017 07:40 to 10:45hrs
Notes: The forecast for Sunday 10th was awful very high winds 46mph+ and some rain showers. It stopped raining about dawn and as we hoped to get a session in the first half of March, we decided to go to Snelsmore and see what conditions were like at the feeder. We found them surprisingly to be just about acceptable. The feeder was shielded by the trees and the building. None the less the catch was affected as the nets were billowing in the wind. We captured one of six Siskins that dropped vertically on to the niger, unfortunately the others escaped vertically returning to singing in the tops of the trees. I am not sure how they stayed there given the violence of the wind that was occasionally breaking off small branches that showered down sometimes on to the cars. At 10:30 the rain radar showed a storm coming, so we took the nets down and just got into our cars as a heavy shower arrived. The 2016 pulli recapture was good.
Weather: Very very windy, getting colder, clear early cloudy later.
Present: JL, IW, DL, JHW
Nets: 12metres a 6m net each side of the feeder up from 08:00 to 10;30hrs.
Lure (feeder): black sunflower, niger, fat balls, peanuts.
