Session: 23-Jun-2019 06:00 to
11:00hrs
Notes: The weather was kind
to us for a change, ideal conditions, overcast and calm. We had a reasonable capture
of 42 about average for CES visit 6. This included the first Reed and Sedge
Warbler juveniles. A juvenile Kingfisher was probably our bird of the day, quite a scarce species in recent years, our last capture here was in 2014.
Chiffchaff numbers are up and exceeding the some year total and we are only
on visit 6. Reed and Sedge Warblers continue a downward trend as indicated in
the chart below of visits 1 to 6. The former is quite a lot down, not
surprising since half the reed bed was cut this winter. Sedge Warbler
encouragingly show a slight increase over 2018.
Weather: overcast, sunny
periods later, calm, warm

Sightings 40 Species: Hobby and
Kingfisher are year ticks for me and Cuckoos are still calling. Later in the
morning there was some sort of insect hatch as many Black-headed Gulls and
some Starling were flycatching quite high up. It was in amongst the gulls that
we spotted the Hobby, frequently grabbing whatever insect it was with its claws.
