21/01 Bagnor Feeder

Location: Bagnor Feeder
Session: 21-Jan-2020 07:40 to 11:30hrs
Notes: Lots of Blue Tits today. They formed 84% of the total. Some good re-traps of nest box ringed birds including a 2016 Great Tit from a Winterbourne Holt box; the 1st time it has appeared since being ringed. The number of Great Tit at this feeder has dropped since the cold weather began on Saturday, just six trapped in this session. Three Coal Tits, a Goldfinch and a Chaffinch without papilloma virus infected feet made up the total of 73. Like all three feeders there is a lack of other bird species.
Weather: sunny, frosty, cold, calm.

Sightings 28 Species: With steady flow of birds to process there was little time for birding and apart from crows, rooks and jackdaws there was little moving. The Little Egret was the first of the year for me. Bagnor once held good numbers, sometimes double figures, all year except in the breeding season. I visit three times a week topping up the feeder but this winter they are comparatively scarce in the Newbury area not just at Bagnor.
