23/07 Greenham Common

Location: Greenham Common Western Enclosure

Session: 23-Jul-2020, 07:35 to 10:50hrs

Notes: Not much happening today. The wind was swirling along the rides. I watched several warblers bounced out of the nets by it. A bit different to last year’s matching visit. Time will tell but at the moment it is looking as if 2020 may not have had a particularly good breeding outcome. Spent a lot of time walking about looking at not a lot!

Present: JL

Weather: cloudy with some blue, warm, SSW swirling breeze.

Nets: 48metres in 3 net rides, two 18M and one 12M net up from 08:00 to 10:30hrs

Lure (Audio): Warbler, Misc Migrants, Redstart, intermittently.

Recaptures:( 0)

Sightings 24 Species: There was a mass exodus of Jackdaws from the bunker breeding site at about 08:30hrs. A flock in excess of 50 circled over the bunkers gaining height before flying WSW.  Some may have drifted back later in the morning. The local Greenfinches have also gathered into a flock of 20+. Had good close prolonged views of one of the juvenile Dartford Warblers picking food from the cracks in the side of a fence post.
