28/09 Greenham Common

Location: Greenham Common Western Enclosure Week 40
Session: 28-Sep-2020, 07:40 to 11:20hrs
Notes: Bright and sunny this morning, quite a lot of movement, a few Chiffchaff and Blackcaps ringed. Also, three Goldcrests; numbers should increase over the next few weeks as birds from further north move down the country. Hopefully, they will bring a scarce species or two with them. Re-trapped the Green Woodpecker ringed on the 10th September, this time it was in full wing moult; had a few skin punctures on my hands from sharp claws.
Present:  JL,IW
Weather: Sunny periods, cool, strong blustery WSW breeze .
Nets: 48metres in 3 net rides, two 18M and a 12M net up from 08:00 to 11:00hrs
Lure (Audio):
Warblers, Misc Migrants, Autumn, WagPips, Wryneck, Yellow-browed Warbler intermittently.

Recaptures: (1) Green Woodpecker 10/09/2020
Sightings 32 Species:
A large raptor flew south. Unfortunately, we didn’t spot it until it was over the trees and to far away to be sure, but thought it was probably a harrier. We have not seen Mistle Thrushes for a while and the Woodlarks were active again today.
After the species list there is a map of the approximate count area. Basically is a far as we can see to ID any species from the core of the area bearing in mind treelines etc..
