06/10 Greenham Common

Location: Greenham Common Western Enclosure Week 41
Session: 06-Oct-2020, 07:45 to 10:45hrs
Notes: A strong breeze so conditions not  very good and around 10:00hrs they got worse and we decided to take the nets down at 10:30hrs. Still a few Chiffchaffs about. Still awaiting the arrival in numbers of Goldcrests and despite there being a considerable number of Yellow-browed arriving throughout the UK, no sign of any in the vicinity yet; we have audio for this species of calls and song running on two separate speakers so if there are any within range we should have a good chance of luring them to the nets.
Present:  JL,IW,JC
Weather: Strong breeze early, cloudy with some sunny period, cool and a strong westerly towards the end of the session.
Nets: 48metres in 3 net rides, two 18M and a 12M net up from 08:00 to 10:30hrs
Lure (Audio):
Warblers, Misc Migrants, Autumn, Thrushes, SK/LR, Yellow-browed Warbler intermittently.
Recaptures: (none)
Sightings 38 Species: Another good movement of House Martins and several other species on the move, this slowed around 10:00hrs as the cloud cover and wind strength increased. After being almost absent for a week or two Starlings began to return in small groups flying east onto the common through the session; we totalled over hundred and probably missed a few arriving groups. Winter migrants have yet to arrive in numbers, just a few seen to date.
