Common Western Enclosure Week 41
Session: 07-Oct-2020, 07:35 to
11:20hrs
Notes: A little breezy today and for the first time this year Goldcrest
captures exceeded Chiffchaff. Just after I said it looked as if we had seen the
last of summer migrant Blackcaps we captured two females or they may have been incoming
wintering migrants, perhaps a little early though.
Present: JL,IW
Weather: wispy high cloud early clearing to warming sunshine
with some cloud, cooler with medium westerly breeze gaining strength towards the end
of the session.
Nets: 48metres in 3 net
rides, two 18M and a 12M net up from 08:00 to 11:00hrs
Lure
(Audio): Warblers, Misc Migrants, Autumn, Thrushes, SK/LR, Yellow-browed
Warbler intermittently.
Present: JL,IW
Recaptures: (none)
Sightings 33 Species: Just a group of two and another of three House Martins drifting west today and a trickle of Skylarks for most of the morning. A Dartford Warbler was calling east of the enclosure when we were putting up the nets. The usual flock of Goldfinches totalling 29 was flying about in small groups and four Greenfinches went over, the first for about a week and two Chaffinches, I think the first since spring. Not much Starling activity. The notable occurrence was that the local Magpies gathered into a flock of 16 in and around a Hawthorn bush and then flew southwest, quite high for them, over to Sandleford Heath, some drifted back in ones and twos later.
