Common Western Enclosure Week 42
Session:12-Oct-2020, 07:45 to
11:25hrs
Notes: At last we got some, many flocks of Redwing dropped into the enclosure and we
captured ten. Unfortunately, the Lesser Redpoll that also dropped all flew out again as did two Fieldfare. Still a few Chiffchaffs coming to audio and some Goldcrests. The Song
Thrush came in with a Redwing flock and was probably a continental.
Present: JL,IW,JC
Weather: Dark overcast, cold-ish and calm, light breeze
later.
Nets: 48metres in 3 net
rides, two 18M and a 12M net up from 08:00 to 11:00hrs
Lure (Audio): BC-CC-FC-CC, Autumn, Thrushes, SK-LR, Yellow-browed Warbler intermittently.
Session:
Present: JL,IW,JC
Recaptures: (1) Blue Tit ringed 15/11/2019
Sightings 35 Species: Redwings were moving west in groups of between 15
and 70 all morning; the biggest count we have had here. We counted 792+
and that was just from our point count, so many more probably passed unseen.
A couple of groups of Fieldfare also flew west; the first of this winter for me.
Two Dartford Warblers today, I think they
may roost in or near the enclosure as I usually hear them when I arrive.
