10/09 Greenham Common

Location: Greenham Common Western Enclosure Week 36
Session: 10/09/2021, 07:30 to 08:40hrs
Notes: Just like yesterday I expected it to be raining but it wasn’t at 07:10 hrs when I left for the common. There was some spotting on the windscreen as I drove down Bury’s Bank Road but no rain when I opened the gate onto the common. We started putting the nets up with some more spotting and some phylos responded as soon as audio was switched on. By the time we extracted these the spotting had changed to rain. While we processed the birds the rain become heavier. We checked the rain radar which showed a heavy rain spell approaching, so we decided to take the nets down that included extracting four more birds. After a good soaking and while we ringed the birds the rain eased and stopped as we left the common. Now the cloud has cleared and the sun is out! Looks like there may have been a good Chiffchaff passage as six plus a Whitethroat for the brief time the nets were up not bad.
Weather: overcast, light breeze, cool, spotting then heavy rain while nets were up (20mins).
Nets: 48metres in 3 rides of 18M, 18M, 12M up from 07:50 to 08:15hrs
Lures Audio: Audio – Sylvia and Phylos Warblers, Crests, Yellow-browed Warbler, Redstart,
Scarce Summer Migrants (chats, pipits, thrushes etc)

Recaptures:(01)
Chiffchaff      ringed: 01/08/2021 Thatcham Marsh LNR
