08/10 Greenham Common

Location: Greenham Common Western Enclosure Week 40
Session: 08/10/2021, 07:30 to 10:45hrs
Notes: Ideal conditions again today. We ringed the first Redwing of the year, didn’t see it go into the enclosure so nice surprise. As I have mentioned recently there are few Blackbirds around the enclosure this autumn. This changed today when we ringed four and the total count was nine. Those ringed today looked to be continental in origin from their wing length and plumage details.
Adult Redwing the first this autumn
Present: JL,IW
Weather: Overcast, warm, calm, few spots of rain (damping) occasionally.
Nets: 48metres in 3 rides of 18M, 18M, 12M up from 08:00 to 10:30hrs
Lures Audio:  BC-CC-FC-GC, Yellow-browed Warbler, Meadow Pipit, Thrushes (Fieldfare, Redwing)

Recaptures:(01)

Chiffchaff      ringed 07/10/2021

Sightings: The Snipe was flushed by a Great Dane charging through the flood water, it charged us as well. A flock of about 30 Goldfinches flew northwest. No hirundines detected but they might have been up in the low mirk. Apart from the thrushes the heath was quite quiet.
