17/04 Thatcham Marsh LNR

Location: Thatcham Marsh LNR
Session: 17/04/2022 07:30 to 11:30hrs
Notes. First Sedge Warblers of the year captured today including one ringed on the 12/08/2021 elsewhere (details awaited). A couple of Reed Warblers were singing when we put the nets up but probably move on as they were not heard on subsequent net rounds. Another three Blackbird dispute ended in the nets again two were from last week’s interaction.
The gate lock is unpredictable, took a while to persuade it to lock when I went through.
Present: JL,IW,JHW,NC
Weather: Sunny, bright,  warm, calm early breezy later.
Nets: 210metres in 2 rides, 18Mx11 reed bed and a 12M scrub nets up from 08:00 to 11:00 hrs
Lures: None

Sightings: 40 Avian Species Apart from the acrocephalus warblers little of note, the Water Rails were noisy after not being detected at all last session, the Muntjac was charging one of my nets but swerved back into the reed bed on seeing me, the probable Field Vole ran across the track and quite a few Butterflies about. Apparently one of the Buzzards was seen flying over with a Weasel in its talons. We ignore the homo sapien and canine species.
