24/04 Thatcham Marsh LNR

Notes: The first Reed Warblers of the year today included a returnee ringed as an adult 12/06/2021. More Sedge Warblers including two that were still around after being ringed  last week. No sign of last weeks bird that had been ringed as a juvenile at Barcote Farm, Bampton, Oxfordshire, 
on the 12/08/2021, 40Km away. Two Treecreepers amongst several birds from the scrub nets; probably a pair, one had a CP and the other had a BP.

Weather: Overcast with sunny periods, cold, breezy north-easterly.
Nets: 228metres in 3 rides, 18Mx11 reed bed plus 18m and 12M scrub nets up from 08:00 to 10:30 hrs
Lures: None 
Reed Warbler just  back from south of the Sahara Desert

Sightings: 39 Avian Species A few more Sedge and Reed Warblers singing today, The
Raven flew West harassed by two Carrion Crows, a few moments latter it flew back East with
the same pursuers. The Garden Warbler was singing by the green gate and just one distant
bubbling call from a female Cuckoo heard. A team from the BBOWT bird race phoned from 
the main track to say they could see a Sparrowhawk in our nets unfortunately it got out as
they were telling us.
