Notes: The forecast was for 8 mph winds but it remained calm all morning. A capture of five Goldcrest was a good start. Two Chiffchaff and two more Goldcrest followed and a little later another Goldcrest; after this it went quiet. The Redwings flying about did not respond to audio neither did the Redpoll or Siskin and I am still hoping for the one of the many Yellow-browed Warbler said to be in the UK this autumn. After a walk around the heathland near the enclosure, a small tit flock crossed resulting in a Great Tit and three Blue Tit being captured. This gave me a chance to check some tit ageing and sexing criteria that I had been reading up on last night.. The Great Tit had been ringed 2+ years ago in my garden. It stayed quiet with just another Goldcrest at 10:20hrs. On release it flew back towards the enclosure and the nets, so I went back to check it had not been caught again. I found a Wren and low to the ground a Firecrest; the fifth one this autumn. These were processed and as is usual we took the nets down at 11:00hrs when another Goldcrest was ringed.

Sightings 29 Species: Two Bullfinches were calling while I put the nets up. A flock of Fieldfare flew west early. Redwings flew about and over towards Sandleford Heath where they appeared to be feeding or gathering in the trees. There was an increase in Chaffinch numbers. Singles of Redpoll and Siskin occasionally flew over and a few high flying Blackbirds were out on the heath. Jackdaws were flying south in double digit flocks also one flock of Woodpigeon did the same followed by a few stragglers. A couple of Dartfords Warblers called from the gorse and it was noticeable that there were fewer Robins on the surrounding heath.
