18/08 Greenham Common

Location: Greenham Common Western Enclosure Week 33
Session: 18/08/2021, 07:30 to 10:45hrs
Notes: Much better ringing conditions today. The Blackbird was in full moult. Moulting is probably why this and other resident species are not very visible just at the moment. This is the first flock of Blue Tits, all juveniles, we have encountered here for long while.
Present: JL,IW
Weather: sunny periods early, overcast later, light breeze, warm
Nets: 48metres in 3 rides of 18M, 18M, 12M up from 07:45 to 10:30hrs
Lures Audio: Warblers, Misc Migrants, Hirundine(part), Redstart, Grasshopper Warbler

Recaptures:(02)

Chiffchaff       ringed 29/06/2021, 02/07/2021

Sightings: On entering the enclosure for the first time we saw at least four Dartford Warblers, a family party, there may have been fifth bird. A walk to look across the grassland and scrub to the east produced the bird of the morning. At the top of a hawthorn bush on the margin of the south lozenge perched a male Ring Ouzel, also a Wheatear was out on the grassland. The Tawny Owl seems to have adopted the same oak tree as a roost; he is there most days if you know where to look.
