15/11 Greenham Common

Location: Greenham Common Western Enclosure Week 46
Session: 15/11/2021, 07:40 to 10:50hrs
Notes:  Had a ringing tick today, a Fieldfare, a first for me as far as I can remember; it is the 20th Fieldfare the NRG have ringed. They often come down to calls but rarely get into the nets. If they do, they usually get out again before we can get to them; they are big thrushes. We had a Chiffchaff in the net, but it got away just as we got to it. A good mix of species for the time of year here.
1st calendar year Fieldfare
Present: JL,IW
Weather: Overcast, cool, calm
Nets: 48metres in 3 rides of 18M, 18M, 12M up from 08:00 to 10:30hrs
Lures Audio:  BC-CC-FC-GC, Yellow-browed Warbler, BR-LR-SK, FF-RE

Recaptures:(01)

Long-tailed Tit        ringed 15/07/2020

Sightings: We saw a large flock of finches (around 100) over the trees to the south, too far away to ID. The flocks of Redpoll and Goldfinch seen later came from that direction and were probably part of the flock. Also, six or seven ducks flying over the lakes at Sandleford were too far away to ID all of them but we did manage to get the plumage of two Shoveler, the others were probably Gadwall or maybe Mallard.
