06/11 Snelsmore Common Feeder

Location: Snelsmore Common Feeder CES 2022/23.01
Session: 06/11/2022 07:30 to 11:30hrs
Notes: We were not sure if we would ring today as the forecast didn’t look promising. We decided to do a dry run as we hadn’t put the nets up here since last winter. Apart from a few spits and spots just after we arrived it stayed dry, so the nets stayed up for a full session and we were kept busy throughout.  Visit 01 of the winter CES was very similar to the matching 2021/22 visit in some respects, just a few more birds. Nice to process five Marsh Tits, including a 2020 individual, not many about recently, also a good few Coal Tits. The Blue and Great Tits retraps included a few pulli from the surrounding nest boxes; four from the same box, still together it seems, also one from the Winterbourne Holt boxes and a Great Tit ringed last winter at the Bagnor Feeder down in the valley.

Sightings: We were all  busy ringing or writing the field log so the list from IW only includes species that were noticed during the session. Counting here is difficult anyway due to the closed in canopy of the trees.
