Location: Thatcham Marsh LNR
Session: 03/09/2023 07:00 to 11:30hrs
Notes: We cleaned the ride out and it took a
bit longer than we expected, finished about 08:45hrs. Then we put up four
18metre nets, two each side of the bend in the ride, just to see what was about
and that would be called in with audio lures. 28 birds is not bad by recent
year’s capture levels and included a Garden Warbler which we rarely ring at
this site. It is always interesting to see what is there unseen and that comes
to calls and song.
Present: IW, DL, JL, NC.
Weather: bright
sunny, calm, cool
Nets: 72M one reed bed ride up from 09:00 to 11:00hrs
Lures:(BC-CC-WW-GW-WH-LW-GC-FC),(W-WC-SF-YW-RZ-TP),(GH-RW-SW-RB-AW),(RT-DW) intermittently.
Nets: 72M one reed bed ride up from 09:00 to 11:00hrs
Recaptures:(01)
Reed Warbler ringed: 26/08/2023
Reed Warbler ringed: 26/08/2023
Sighting: We
probably missed one or two species while strimming the ride. IW thought he saw the
flash of a Redstarts tail as a bird disappeared into the foliage near the
railway under-bridge when we came off the reed bed at nets down; not able to
confirm though. A few insect on the wing in the warmth of the sun, including some high flying butterflies moving too fast to ID.
