Location:
Greenham Common Western Enclosure (wk36)
Session: 06/09/2023 07:45
to 11:00hrs
Notes: Another Redstart today an immature female and the second Reed Bunting of
the
season. I tried to get a photo of the latter, but they are notable for not
keeping still in the hand
and this one was no exception. I can officially
confirm that a hornet sting is not as painful as a
wasp or bee string. A least
the sting I got this morning didn’t hurt that much. It was attacking
one of the birds, so I grabbed hold of it without much protection and it got me in the soft tip of
my thumb.
Present: JL,IW,IQ
Weather: bright sunny, hot calm.
Nets: 48metres 3 Rides,
18M, 18M and 12M up from 08:00 to 10:30hrs
Lures:
(BC-CC-WW-GW-WH-LW-GC-FC),
(W-WC-SF-RZ-TP-WY), (GH-RW-SW-RB-AW), (RT-YB) intermittently.
Recaptures: (none)
Sightings: The was a bit of movement early in the session with a couple of flocks of Canada Goose one (17) flying south and another different flock (20) flying north. A mallard and a Heron went over early and two Snipe flew in from Sandleford Heath directions. Surprisingly few insect on the wing, maybe it was too hot for some of our butterflies and dragonflies?
